Christian Ghion’s “table collection” for FORGE DE LAGUIOLE debuts with a stunning set of six knives. These knives feature a distinctive 13-centimeter handle that gracefully curves into a 10-centimeter stainless steel blade (Z40C13), with a thickness of three millimeters. The blade’s design, with a subtly tapered tip and a softened counter edge, draws inspiration from Ghion’s earlier folding knife model, resulting in a masterful interpretation of the traditional FORGE DE LAGUIOLE table knife. This collection, launched in 2008, showcases Ghion’s expertise in blending heritage craftsmanship with modern design. The handle, crafted from dark horn with a polished finish, is a unifying element across the collection, maintaining a consistent 13-centimeter length regardless of the blade’s purpose. Its balanced arc design ensures a stable grip, accommodating various blade lengths and uses. Stainless steel front and rear bolsters protect the knife’s ends and enhance durability, while a smooth, pyramid-shaped fly serves as a signature Laguiole detail. However, true authenticity is confirmed only by the certificate of origin and the engraved inscription on the blade. Christian Ghion, born in 1958 in Montmorency, began his journey at ECM in 1982 and later taught at the Charenton School of Architecture. In 1987, he established his design studio with Patrick Nadeau, and in 1990, he received the Grand Prize for Creation from the city of Paris. Ghion’s portfolio includes the Chantal Thomass boutique on rue Saint-Honoré, the Jean-Charles de Castelbajac store, and numerous collaborations with prestigious brands like Driade, Cappellini, and Neotu. His work is exhibited in renowned venues such as the Fondation Cartier and the Musée Georges Pompidou, and is part of many international collections.
